HOME WATCH UPDATE

• I mentioned earlier about local people in Cuddington reporting anyone acting suspiciously in school grounds to us. Recently a concerned resident telephoned us having seen kids in Cuddington Primary School, which had been the scene of recent break ins. We attended and arrested a 16year old Winsford youth whom we found in possession of cannabis.

• Three men from Winsford were arrested following reports of people breaking into the old Yogurt Factory in Cuddington. All three have been charged and will appear at court next month.

• Sightings please for a Mazda pick up index number J496 ONE. This vehicle’s driver was seen hiding in bushes near to the old Yogurt Factory in Cuddington. We believe the vehicle is from Manchester.

• After a house was broken into in the village in July, police succeeded in arresting 3 men after a brief pursuit.

• Cheshire Police are advising residents to reduce the chances of opportunist thefts from open doors and windows by simple security measures - don’t leave doors and windows open whilst at the other end of the house, keep hedges trimmed back, mark garden furniture, bicycles etc with your postcode and house number and don’t leave highly portable valuables on view.

• Police attended at Ash Road last month and arrested two Eastern European men for stealing scrap metal. They had been calling door to door and residents alerted police.

• The West Cheshire Home Watch Group (WCHWG) was established in April and will enable Home Watch Coordinators to share best practise and represent members’ views. The WCHWG see this as an exciting opportunity which will bring members together, increase new schemes whilst supporting existing members. All existing police registered Home Watch Coordinators in West Cheshire will be entitled to become members of the WCHWG - if you are interested in finding out more or wish to contact one of the group, please contact: WCHWG on: 01244 614291 or to email: Click Here.

• Cold Callers have been asking to check water pressures. Please refuse entry and report any such incidents.

• Bogus waterboard officials have also been in the area recently. One lady had a substantial amount of money taken from her house by men who said they needed to check her water pressure. Please do not become a victim of this type of crime. Don’t let anyone into your house you don’t know without a phone call to check them out. Why not keep the numbers below by your phone. The more insistent people are on coming in without letting you check them the less likely they are to be genuine. The number for United Utilities is 0845 7462200, use it to check out anyone claiming to be from them. HOW TO MAKE YOUR COMMUNITY MORE SECURE

By being a good neighbour, and keeping an eye out for anything suspicious you can help to make your community more secure. These are some of the things you should report:

Strangers knocking on front doors or peering through windows then disappearing round the back, or loitering suspiciously;

Strangers hanging round schools, playing fields, etc and approaching children;

Open windows in houses where the owners are out or on holiday;

Strangers trying car doors;

Anything that you believe is suspicious.

DETAILS ARE IMPORTANT

Whenever you pass on information, remember that accurate descriptions of suspected people and vehicles, etc, will save time and confusion. This is the information the police will need:

an exact description of what you have seen;

the time;

the place;

the person(s) involved: approximate age, sex, height, build, unusual characteristics, clothing worn, and any other distinguishing features;

the vehicles involved: registration number (even part of this number might help), make and model (if known), colour and direction of travel.
