PARISH

Councillor Grimshaw attended to give news from CWAC. He told the meeting that Cheshire West and

Chester had been selected to take part in a new system for managing community budgets. There are only 5 authorities in the country involved, 3 of which are London boroughs and the other is Manchester.

They hope that the new system will mean that less money is ‘ring fenced’, which means it is allocated to a specific purpose and cannot be used elsewhere even if it felt there is a greater need somewhere else. There should also be more opportunity for agencies to work together, for example - the Police and the Primary Care Trusts (known better to most of us as the NHS) might decide to work together on issues which involve both of them.

Other good news from CWAC was that extra funding on top of the budget has been allocated to spend

on roads. Let’s hope some of it finds its way to the village. On a lighter note but the same theme, it

seems that CWAC have been given a number of awards for their performance in various areas, including one for filling in potholes!

The parish council recommended approval for the plans for the former Nestle site which include 158

private dwellings and open spaces including a play area, a wild flower meadow and allotments. However they are not satisfied about the details for the new allotments and will press for these issues to be addressed.

The sum of £500 was allocated for a Playsheme to run for a week during the summer holidays. This will provide for 10 sessions of activities, each one taking 24 children.

A donation of £50 to the Air Ambulance was approved.

The council is looking into the possibility of getting funding for the provision of a BMX park on land

alongside the Multi Use Games Area behind Blake Lane.

The next meeting of the parish council will take place at the village hall on Monday 20th February at 7.30pm with a Public Forum at 7.15pm when residents can put questions to the council. PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN RURAL AREAS

DIAMOND JUBILEE EVENTS 2012

OPEN FORUM FOR DISCUSSION

This would be a good opportunity for residents to get their voices heard on the subject of public transport - or lack of it - in this village.

Enquiries to Fiona Dunning by email Click Here; or call her on 01606 288842.

On January 23rd an encouraging number of people gathered at the White Barn to discuss our Diamond Jubilee Celebrations. Out of the discussions that took place came the kernel of an event which could include any or all of the following :-

An open air service by the combined churches of the village,

A Big Lunch where people can bring their own picnic and outdoor furniture - possibly with the option       to  buy food from stalls, barbecues etc

    An afternoon tea dance

An array of bands, choirs, drama, dancing to watch or to join in

    A beer tent

Additional ideas included a beacon - the problem was - where? Also there could be trees planted -         again the question would be - ? A committee of 7 willing volunteers has been formed but this is very      much a community event and suggestions, offers of help or of the loan of any equipment likely to be      useful eg tents, awnings or large gazebos would be welcomed.

The planning will be coordinated at Blakemere Craft Centre and any communications should be made through; on their website by Clicking Here or ring 01606 883261
